When you hear the words “Italian cuisine” you know you’re in for a mouthwatering journey; one that only gets better and better one dish at a time! To our surprise, there’s a lot more (and we mean a lot!) to Italian cuisine than cheese, pasta and pizza! At the Semiramis InterContinental’s award-winning Italian restaurant, Pane Vino, Chef Giovanni curates a different buffet every week, highlighting a different region of his country’s flavourful cuisine.
We happened to stop by for a gastronomical tour through Campania, located in the southern part of Italy. Starting off with authentic Neapolitan appetizers with some “fresella” baked bread, “burrata” mozzarella and baked “frittata di pasta”; already craving more? You’d better be because we are just getting started!
Time to officially dig in! We indulged in a variety of traditional seafood platters which are only to be found in that specific region, like the octopus alla Luciana, eel and mussels impepata di cozze. We also enjoyed one of the chef’s secret family recipes, namely the “polpettone beef pie,” a combination of minced meat, Parmesan cheese and peas that are baked to perfection.
Now, it wouldn’t be an Italian buffet without a wide variety of pasta plates especially the lasagna; we guarantee that you’ve never tasted a lasagna like this one before! This cheesy creation is filled with smoked turkey, parmesan, peas and eggs…just how it’s served in festivals across Southern Italy.
Remember to save some space for the heavenly “Pastiera Napoletana.” This delicious dessert melts in your mouth with a rich taste of ricotta, coconut and dried fruits laced with an unbeatable crunch.
Every Saturday at Pane Vino marks a different culinary journey from Italy that’s definitely worth experiencing!
